MECHANIC
The Town of Jay is accepting applications for a Mechanic in the Public Works Department. This is a full-time position with benefits. This is skilled work in the repair and maintenance of a variety of public vehicles and equipment including automobiles, light and heavy trucks, and all other special and standard municipal equipment and attachments. This position is responsible for scheduling regular maintenance and keeping all repair and related records. Work also includes the general repair and maintenance of the garage, tools, and supplies, as well as keeping the repair facility compliant with all insurance, DEP and EPA rules. This position is also responsible for the purchasing of parts needed to effect repairs in a timely and cost-effective manner. This position works with various Department Supervisors in the purchase of new equipment or major repair expenses and also assists the public works crew in seasonal activities including general road repair, snow plowing, and some carpentry and building maintenance as necessary. Overtime is required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Director. Previous experience is required. Availability required during winter as weather dictates and 15-mile residency requirement. Sufficient educational background and physical ability to perform related duties is required. Class B/CDL license preferred or commitment to gain Class B when required and a clean driving history is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Maine A, D and T inspection license. Ability to work with the general public is essential. The successful candidate will be subject to ongoing drug and alcohol testing and a pre-employment physical.
