CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION
The Department of Administrative & Financial Services has one current vacancy for a Human Resources Assistant. This position will support the Corrections Service Center in the Payroll Division located in Augusta, Maine.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Human Resources Assistant, you will be responsible for processing human resources transactions and payroll for the Maine Department of Corrections. Work requires the application of varying complex payroll rules as described in six collective bargaining agreements, State and Federal Labor Laws related to employee pay, and Civil Service rules and laws. Additionally, this position will interpret and explain contract provisions and perform other human resource functions as needed.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collects time and attendance data, verifies information for accuracy, computes

wages and/or deductions and enters information into payroll system.

  • Reviews time and attendance records, wage computations, and

other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies.

  • Completes, reviews, examines and records human resource transactions,

ensuring all appropriate policies and procedures have been met.

  • Explains department human resources policies, benefits and procedures, and

collective bargaining contract provisions to employees and supervisors.

  • Assists with new hire orientation, to include meeting with new employees,

processing paperwork and related human resources transactions.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge of basic human resources administration policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of record keeping procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to process accurate payroll information in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas, orally and in writing, so that others understand.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, training, and/or experience which provides a basic knowledge and understanding of human resource functions.
