The GIS Specialist creates maps and figures to be used in the permitting process, and finds/repackages spatial data relevant to land development projects. The position works on various assignments as a project team member to accomplish geospatial and other project tasks in concert with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Surveyors, Landscape Architects and CAD professionals. Proficiency in GIS products, ability and willingness to learn new computer programs, and an eye for cartography are a must. The ideal candidate will seek to use their knowledge of GIS to provide team members with deliverables, products and services that will surpass expectations.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Create maps and figures for land development permits utilizing available data and appropriate templates.
  • Create public data-based design plans
  • Find data and imagery through online and internal sources; repackage and deliver appropriately based on data type and end user.
  • Download LiDAR point clouds and process into Digital Elevation Models with appropriate accuracy and resolution for use in GIS and CAD.
  • Prepare and import shapefiles and imagery to AutoCAD Civil 3D; build 3D surfaces in AutoCAD to be used by engineering and CAD professionals.
  • Troubleshoot and fix projection issues with various data formats.
  • Maintain and update internal Google Earth-based Sebago GIS.
  • Apply geospatial thinking, as needed, to ongoing projects.

Education and Experience:

  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS products, including ArcMap, ArcPro and AGOL.
  • Experience with CAD and other GIS (QGIS, Global Mapper, etc) a plus.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam or other PDF editing software.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in GIS, Geography, or related degree.
