Description The Senior Portfolio Manager (SPM) is a leadership position. The SPM is responsible for overall portfolio management of the Commercial Banking Group. The SPM will work closely with the Credit Department to analyze credit risk, monitor key financial indicators and ensure the portfolio management process is effective and in compliance with bank policy and Federal / State regulations. This involves developing policy, procedures and reporting systems. The position will work closely with the Director of Commercial Banking, Manager of Credit Administration, Manager of Operations and Compliance and the Relationship Management team. The SPM will strive to balance credit quality goals and sales by serving as an independent credit expert at times. The successful candidate may attend client and prospect meetings with relationship managers, gather information and perform research in order to identify, quantify, and mitigate credit risk inherent in a commercial lending function. The candidate will be expected to develop strong working relationships with internal partners, credit officers, attorneys, auditors, regulators and other bankers.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Assist with the analysis of individual company performance and the impact of industry and competitive dynamics and macroeconomic events on the creditworthiness of clients and prospects.

•Apply knowledge of credit policy, pricing and structure to develop solutions that meet the client's need and the Bank's risk acceptance criteria.

•Work closely with the RM, providing an opinion on some of the Bank’s most complex credit requests; identifying and mitigating key risks.

•Assist with determining the appropriate risk rating for a company, proactively identifying risk rating changes.

•Recommends and models appropriate loan structures.

•Actively participates in research projects.

•Ensure the team actively manages financial reporting requirements, covenant requirements, past dues and documentation exceptions

•Guides the team in the maintenance of electronic credit files; ensures files are complete with all up to date information.

•Complete timely ongoing periodic credit servicing of loans within the portfolio including analyzing historical financial performance, performance vs. projections, covenant compliance, risk rating and other significant risk drivers

•Ensure compliance with internal bank commercial loan policy, credit risk management policy and external regulatory requirements; documents any exceptions to policy

•Direct the team to review internal and attorney prepared loan documents to ensure accuracy as compared to the credit approval package; works closely with Commercial Sales Assistants.

•Participate in post-closing inspection as part of a continuous monitoring credit risk management framework and develops action plans for deteriorating credits with the Special Asset Group.

Other duties and responsibilities may include:

Work closely with the Manager of Credit Administration to support the Commercial Credit Development Program and OMEGA Commercial Training Program.

Provide guidance and support in the implementation of the new underwriting and portfolio management system. Work closely with operations, risk, audit and compliance to ensure reporting is robust and provides meaningful measurement tools.

Oversee and develop loan participation management with other financial institutions in an effort to grow and diversify the Bank’s portfolio, while adhering to our credit risk appetite and pricing requirements.

Assist with and develop strategic and operational plans to ensure the PM teams are aligned properly, roles clearly defined and skills present to satisfactorily meet the needs of the growing department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • Completion of a major corporate credit training program (or the equivalent corporate banking/corporate finance experience)
  • Ten (10) years of commercial banking experience
  • Significant accounting, finance and commercial banking experience
  • Strong accounting and finance skills
