Full job description The Portfolio Manager (PM) is responsible for managing a portfolio of business clients, overseeing the financial health of their loans, and ensuring client satisfaction with the bank’s services. The candidate will report directly to the Commercial Banking Team leader.The PM will work closely with the Credit Department to analyze credit risk, monitor key financial indicators and ensure the portfolio management process is effective and in compliance with bank policy and Federal / State regulations. The successful candidate may attend client and prospect meetings with relationship managers, gather information and perform research in order to identify, quantify, and mitigate credit risk inherent in a commercial lending function. The candidate will be expected to develop strong working relationships with internal partners, credit officers, attorneys, auditors, regulators and other bankers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the analysis of individual company performance and the impact of industry and competitive dynamics and macroeconomic events on the creditworthiness of clients and prospects.
  • Apply knowledge of credit policy, pricing and structure to develop solutions that meet the client's need and the Bank's risk acceptance criteria.
  • Work closely with the RM, providing an opinion on some of the Bank’s most complex credit requests; identifying and mitigating key risks.
  • Assist with determining the appropriate risk rating for a company, proactively identifying risk rating changes.
  • Recommends and models appropriate loan structures.
  • Actively participates in research projects.
  • Ensure the team actively manages financial reporting requirements, covenant requirements, past dues and documentation exceptions
  • Guides the team in the maintenance of electronic credit files; ensures files are complete with all up-to-date information.
  • Complete timely ongoing periodic credit servicing of loans within the portfolio including analyzing historical financial performance, performance vs. projections, covenant compliance, risk rating and other significant risk drivers.
  • Ensure compliance with internal bank commercial loan policy, credit risk management policy and external regulatory requirements; documents any exceptions to policy.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers and Loan Assistants to review internal and attorney prepared loan documents to ensure accuracy as compared to the credit approval package.
  • Participate in post-closing inspection as part of a continuous monitoring credit risk management framework and develops action plans for deteriorating credits with the Special Asset Group.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics or related field.
  • Several years of experience in commercial banking, credit analysis, portfolio management or similar role.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in financial analysis and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency with banking software and systems.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, laws and commercial banking products and services.

  • Assists in ensuring that the Bank is in compliance with local, state and federal regulations

  • General office environment.
  • Moderate lifting (to 35 lbs.) required. Moderate reaching, walking, sitting and standing required.
