Position Summary:

As Transport Driver Supervisor, this position primarily involves the hiring, managing and supervising of Transport Drivers to provide timely and efficient movement of petroleum products. This position provides leadership in support of the Dead River Company Brand Promise, Customer Guarantees and Pledges, and Co-worker Guarantees and Pledges.

Essential Functions:

1. Ensures efficient transport service seven days a week by participating in the hiring and scheduling of a productive workforce of regular and seasonal drivers.

2. This position is responsible for building positive relationships with all internal and external customers, supporting annual customer growth and retention goals.

3. Regularly rides with drivers to review and observe established driving and delivery expectations and addresses observed deficiencies.

4. May work with lead mechanic to schedule all truck and trailer repairs and maintenance. Depending on mechanic availability, may also schedule repairs, maintenance, licensing, and inspections of Transport vehicles. Responsible for overseeing all these functions.

5. Instrumental in the performance management process including having disciplinary oversight and authority.

6. Participates in road testing and driver training and documents that all drivers have been trained in the safe handling and delivery of products.

7. Emphasizes safety by conducting safety meetings, accident investigation, spills and injuries, and becomes familiar with all applicable federal and state laws and company safety policies.

8. Tracks and maintains all driver hours of service and logs using our electronic logging device application

9. Schedules all driver DOT physicals.

10. Evaluates and discusses performance with employees utilizing the Performance Scorecard.

11. Maintains communication with Transport Manager and Transport Dispatchers. Provides trucks and drivers needed to meet customer demand based on weekly forecast.

12. As needed this position also participates in transport delivery up to one or sometimes two shifts per week and as needed on an emergency basis and sets the standard in corporate image, team work, safe work habits, productivity, and driving courtesy.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Certification and Testing:

Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker and hazardous materials endorsement is required.

· CETP training and certification is required to transport propane.

· All transport drivers must be able to pass a D.O.T. physical.

· All transport drivers are subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.


On a daily basis the Transport Supervisor is in contact with customers, drivers, and other office staff. This position works closely with the Transport Manager and Transport Dispatchers.

Decisions Made:

The Transport Supervisor makes decisions regarding hiring, maintenance issues, and whether to make deliveries based on safety issues and weather concerns. Many of these and other decisions are made in consultation with the Transport Manager and Transport Dispatchers. At all times, the Transport Supervisor’s input is given great weight.

Safety Considerations:

Safety considerations relate to the safe delivery of petroleum products for the fleet. Any accidents, spills, overfills, or wrong deliveries are promptly reported and an investigation completed.

Equipment Used:

Computer and other basic office equipment is utilized. When making a product delivery, a delivery truck and associated equipment is used.

Work Environment:

The majority of time is spent in a fast-paced indoor/outdoor environment. During emergency or unusual situations, this position makes petroleum deliveries. Temperatures can vary from below zero to above 90 degrees, depending on the time of year.

  • The position requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting
  • There is occasional to frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing
  • There is frequent use of the hands/arms to reach, feel, handle, lift or pull
  • There is frequent communication involving both talking and listening over the telephone or radio and in person

Weight or Force Moved:

While driving, Drivers must be able to pull a delivery hose (a weight of up to 75 lbs. - up to 75 feet an average of 2-5 times daily).
