Located a ½ mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, Old Orchard Beach High School is a 200 student, grades 9-12 school seeking a full-time special education teacher to support students in our self-contained intensive needs program. This position will work closely with the current teacher and staff to provide programming for students with a variety of needs for the remainder of the school year. The successful candidate should possess the following:
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
QUALIFICATIONS / JOB SUMMARY:
  • Experience working with students with mild to moderate academic and functional needs
  • Conduct academic evaluations and classroom observations
  • Fulfill case management duties, including paperwork and consultation with classroom teachers
  • Consult with team members to provide integrated programming
  • Complete progress monitoring of all students on a scheduled basis
  • Provide direct instruction in reading, writing, math, and daily living skills
  • Develop and implement Positive Behavior Support Plans
  • Supervise Educational Technicians
  • Knowledge of Chapter 101 regulations
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and share best practices
  • Excellent communication with parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote and support student success
  • Demonstrated ability of understanding and supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students
  • Interest in participating in the school community outside of the classroom
  • Exemplary time management and organizational skills
