ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for overall supervision of employees, and for the work completed in the HIM and ROI teams
- Assures the department(s) employ adequate personnel to meet the
business needs
- Adequately manages the employment process of all direct reports
including, but not limited to, hiring, orientation, training, and performance
management.
- Sets clear accuracy measures and productivity goals; monitors progress
to achieve results in accordance with InterMed Strategic goals
- Responsible for defining and maintaining the integrity of medical records
in all forms for InterMed
- Organizes the storage, retrieval, archiving and destruction of records
according to state and federal statutes
- Responsible for growth, direction, and general well-being of staff as it
relates to performance through regular, mentoring, and
coaching consistent with InterMed’s Success Management initiatives.
- Regularly reviews and updates policies, and procedures as appropriate
and communicates to employees and customers, as appropriate.
- Oversees all release of medical information from medical charts, and
ensures compliance with state and federal regulations
- Responsible for the developing the department’s operational budget and
manages staff and work within approved budgets. Responsible for
variance reporting when applicable
- Collaboration with all departments and physicians, using professional
manners and problem-solving techniques to resolve differences and
promote an atmosphere of teamwork for the overall good of the
organization
- Serves as an internal consultant on health information management
issues including release of information, confidentiality, information storage
and retrieval, and record retention
- Works collaboratively with Compliance, Human Resources, Accounts
Receivable, the Management team, and Physicians to minimize the risk of
privacy and security breaches, to mitigate damages if any, and to resolve
related issues
- Establish expectations and model behaviors that demonstrate service
excellence to staff and focuses on the patient as the primary customer
- Continuously optimize staff roles and responsibilities to meet performance
goals
- Support, embrace and lead change management
- Other tasks may be assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree required
- RHIA or RHIT certification strongly preferred
- Previous experience in Health Care/Health Information Management
preferred
- A minimum of 3 - 5 years of leadership experience, preferably in a
Healthcare HIM setting
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Possess the ability to make independent decisions and handle multiple
projects simultaneously
- Experience with regulations and accreditation standards, knowledge of
specific state and federal requirements and standards related to the
management of health information
- Expertise in health information management, best practices, processes,
and procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology, classification
systems, and vocabularies
- Knowledgeable with MS Office applications, EMR - eClinicalWorks,
scanning, and health information chart completion applications
- Experience with managing HIM claims processing
- Continues to meet required continuing education hours of the American
Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and maintains
accreditation status.
