Job Summary

The Admissions Fellow is a one-year term position in the Office of Admissions, designed to provide comprehensive exposure to all aspects of admissions work. The Fellow contributes to all facets of the admissions process, including but not limited to: recruiting students and representing the College to the public in-person and virtually; reviewing applications for admission; interviewing prospective students; leading public presentations to promote the College and assisting campus visitors; and partnering with community members and colleagues across the College on tasks. The Admissions Fellow is expected to contribute to projects and programs being executed across the office and is also responsible for independently managing tasks or projects as assigned. Some limited travel may be required. All Admissions staff are expected to contribute to Bowdoin’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and to clearly articulate the values and benefits of a liberal arts education.

Essential functions:

  • Supporting office programs, projects, and initiatives seeking to recruit and enroll students.
  • Reviewing applications and making admissions recommendations as well as participating as a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Recruiting students through dean-on-duty coverage and programs on- and off-campus, in person and virtually, including presentations about Bowdoin and serving as a resource for students, families, school counselors.


Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to comply with the College’s current Motor Vehicle Policy. Willingness to travel and to work extended hours (including weekends) during peak periods is also required.

This is a one-year appointment from July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026.

Education/Skills Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.

    Demonstrated capacity to plan, coordinate, and execute program activities independently from concept to completion. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.

  • Collaborative and Adaptable Team Player
    Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in team environments. Capable of transferring knowledge across different contexts, with a strong focus on adaptability, attention to detail, resilience, and effective time management.

  • Outstanding Communication and Presentation Skills
    Proficient in both oral and written communication, with the ability to deliver engaging presentations and connect with diverse audiences, including prospective students and their families.

  • Analytical Thinking and Technical Proficiency
    Skilled in interpreting data and synthesizing complex information clearly and concisely. Comfortable using a range of common software tools, including Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom.

  • Commitment to Liberal Arts Education
    A genuine enthusiasm for the values and benefits of a liberal arts education is highly desirable. A solid understanding of the American higher education system is essential.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

This is an entry-level position, no previous work in admissions required.

Preferred:

  • Experience with liberal arts colleges
  • 1-3 year in admissions, including jobs held as a college student

Standard Work Days and Hours

This is a full-time, year-round position. Regular work hours are 8:30 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Some travel may be required. Evening and weekend work will be required. The anticipated term is August 1-July 31.
During a weather emergency, this role may be considered essential personnel to serve visitors. While some hybrid work may be considered on an as-feasible basis, aligned with operational needs, the Fellow should anticipate that they may be required most days to be in-office.
