The University of New England invites applications for a half-time Writer to join the College of Business. This position is ideal for a skilled communicator with a passion for higher education, digital storytelling, and academic excellence. The Writer will work collaboratively with the Dean, staff, faculty, and center directors to develop and maintain high-quality written content that promotes the College’s strategic initiatives, research endeavors, and public presence.
This role is instrumental in ensuring the College’s brand, voice, and vision are clearly articulated across various platforms—particularly digital and external-facing materials. The ideal candidate is an experienced writer who thrives in a collaborative, academic environment and is motivated to support thought leadership in the business education space.
This is a half-time position (20 hours per week) with a flexible hybrid schedule. The role is supervised by the Dean of the College of Business.

Responsibilities
College of Business Writing & Content Development
- Collaborate with the Dean’s office to draft, revise, and finalize internal documents, reports, and policy communications.
- Develop external-facing content, including marketing collateral, website content, and social media messaging.
- Maintain consistency in tone, style, and branding across all written materials.
Faculty and Center Support
- Assist faculty and center directors with grant writing, research papers, and academic presentations.
- Engage in and potentially co-author academic research projects.
- Contribute to the dissemination of thought leadership in areas such as sales, entrepreneurship, and business innovation.
Strategic Communication Advisory
- Serve as an editorial advisor to the Dean, providing input and feedback on key communications and strategic messaging.
- Identify storytelling opportunities that highlight the College’s impact and academic strengths.
- Other applicable duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field is required and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in writing, editing, or communications or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Master’s degree or graduate education is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working in or with academic institutions is a plus.
- Proven success in writing for both academic and external audiences, including grant writing and publishing.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with digital content platforms, social media, and writing tools, including AI-enhanced applications.
