ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Telephonic and in-person triage of occupational injuries and illnesses and based on protocol, determines need for care to include: nurse management, referral to on-site nurse practitioner/physician assistant, or preferred provider for further evaluation as necessary. Advise appropriate recommendations for the employee’s condition and job
  • Telephonic and in-person triage of non-occupational and personal injuries and illnesses and, based on protocol, determine need for care, to include referral to primary care provider. In addition, determine employee's ability to safely perform their job based on their job physical demands, requiring the ability to recognize the acuity of each incident and prioritize contact with the employee to reduce risk of workplace injury or exacerbating current injury symptoms
  • Provides Nurse Case Management of occupational injuries and illnesses. Collaborates with employer client leadership, human resources, vocational rehabilitation, safety department and workers compensation carrier to coordinate and ensure continuity of care and resolution of symptoms
  • Provides Health Screening assessment, education and referrals utilizing protocols and motivational interviewing
  • Provides post offer health assessments for newly hired employees or existing employees changing jobs to determine employees’ ability to safely perform new job or tasks
  • Acts as an advocate for the patient and helps to determine with the patient what their needs are.
  • Represents InterMed to employer clients exemplifying InterMed values in client interactions
  • Demonstrates the importance of effective communication, diplomacy and professionalism when working with onsite clients
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory compliance of the Nursing Practice Act, OSHA, HIPAA, Workers Compensation, and FMLA
  • Knowledge of employer client programs and benefits
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CDC immunization schedules, and administer immunizations to include, seasonal influenza, Hepatitis B and tetanus vaccines and others as ordered through travel medicine program
  • Facilitates test results by protocol to assure timely patient notification, working in concert with physician/nurse practitioner/physician assistant to prioritize results and actions
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times and delivers care in a manner that preserves the patient’s autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs
  • Responds to medical office emergencies with the care team and administers CPR and basic first aid when required (and as demonstrated by competency)
  • Ability and willingness to provide excellent customer service to patients, InterMed colleagues and vendors
  • Participates in Employee Orientation and staff professional development activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred
  • Unencumbered active registered nurse licensure in state of Maine
  • Experience in occupational health and/or musculoskeletal assessments preferred
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Proficient in Windows applications, electronic medical record preferred
