Hours: 40 hours per week
This is a temporary full-time, 40 hour per week position, with an anticipate end date of approximately September 30, 2019. Temporary staff will be split between Mercy's State Street, Fore River and Westbrook locations.

This position will pay $16 per hour.

Job Summary:

The Referral Specialist will process referrals that require follow-up to determine if the referral by the receiving entity has been scheduled, the patient been seen, or testing performed,if complete, has the consultation notes been received, and finally to complete of the referral. In addition, the Referral Specialist will review these orders to determine if orders are completed at Mercy, or other healthcare organization, are they future orders, duplicate, or in fact require scheduling.The Referrals Specialist will also to review patient orders / recalls determining what action is required, scheduling of diagnostics, follow-up in clinic, recurring orders, etc.

The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Northern Light Mercy Hospital.

Job Requirements:

A High School Diploma or GED is required.Medical terminology preferred. Insurance verification and prior authorization strongly desired. Medical office experience desired. Strong customer service skills essential, including excellent interpersonal and telephone communication skills. Must possess organizational skills and attention to detail.Independent judgment required in prioritizing tasks. The incumbent must be computer literate.
