Educate Maine is seeking a Communications and Events Intern for Summer 2025 to work on our Maine Career Catalyst program team. The position will report to the Senior Workforce Development Specialist and will work closely with other program Specialists and interns. This position is a hybrid role with work primarily being done from our Portland, ME office. 1-3 days a week will be spent at in-person events throughout the state.

 Successful candidates will be enrolled in a degree program with a minimum of 2nd year standing at the time of application, and studying, but not limited to; Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Events Management, Education, or a related field. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in communications, event planning, and/or marketing with opportunities to execute virtual and in person, large- and small-scale professional development, networking, and social events over a 10-week program period. Learning outcomes in this role will include intern program standards and practices, project management, event planning, communication with peers and professionals, and working in a hybrid environment.

The Communications and Events Intern will:

  • Manage the program’s calendar of events including assisting with event logistics, planning and promotion for both virtual and in-person events, and attending all events.
  • Create and maintain our library of branded materials and manage weekly delivery of the participant newsletter.
  • Manage the program’s social media presence.
  • Support updates and content creation for the program website.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and solicit feedback from peers and partners while actively participating in the events.
  • Support business development efforts and coordinate and manage projects involving partners at all levels.
  • Communicate and build a network via phone, email, and social media with contacts and partners.

Job requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with professional social media posting across platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram)
  • Capable of working independently and in a team
  • Ability to be a role model in social situations with peers and professionals
  • Experience with WordPress, Canva, Google Sites, Constant Contact, and/or SurveyMonkey preferred
  • Ability to travel locally, primarily in southern and mid-coast Maine
  • Reside in the state of Maine during the internship period

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, paid position at $18.50 per hour. The internship will run for a minimum of 12 weeks, ideally beginning no later than May 19th and ending no earlier than August 8th, 2025 with some flexibility based on the intern's school-related needs. Ideal candidates will be available to start the week of May 12th, but it is not required for candidacy. Hours will primarily be between 8:30am and 5:00pm with evening and weekend availability required to support planned events. All dates will be available in advance for these evening & weekend events. In-state travel is required.
