Maine Academy of Natural Sciences (MeANS)
Hinckley, Maine
The Maine Academy of Natural Sciences (MeANS) is a public charter high school offering a unique educational experience for students in grades 9-12. Nestled in the natural beauty of Maine, our school specializes in project-based, proficiency-driven learning focused on agriculture, forestry, and environmental sciences. MeANS provides two educational paths: the Campus Program, emphasizing hands-on learning in a vibrant natural sciences environment, and the innovative Threshold Program, which supports students in remote and personalized learning experiences. Students benefit from experiential learning facilities such as a one-acre farm, greenhouses, aquaponics systems, and a sugar house, all while building skills for success in academics, careers, and life.
Founded in 2011 on the Good Will-Hinckley campus, MeANS fosters a supportive community that empowers diverse learners to achieve their potential through a curriculum rooted in the values of respect, responsibility, and community. The school’s mission is to inspire and
engage students through education grounded in the natural sciences and real-world applications.
