Job Summary
The Housekeeping Team Leader – Projects and Scheduling position is a working supervisor role responsible for the day-to-day direction of a cleaning team and supporting the Bowdoin Sustainable Cleaning Program. The Team Leader is also responsible for cleaning, inspecting, inventorying cleaning products, and the scheduling of tasks, assignments, and projects. The Team Leader will work in close collaboration with the cleaning management team.
- Perform general cleaning work assignments following established procedures and in compliance with the Bowdoin College Housekeeping standards which involves utilizing machinery, College provided products, floor stripping and refinishing, and training others to complete those tasks.
- Supervise, direct, assist and review the team’s completion of assigned cleaning tasks in accordance with established criteria, adjusting and inspecting work, carrying out special instructions, or resolving cleaning problems as needed. Attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings.
- Provide daily staff oversight , report any damage, and initiate maintenance service requests.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, keep closets clean and free from clutter, and move furniture/office equipment as necessary.
- Schedule daily coverage for buildings to adjust for vacations/sick days and communicate with team accordingly. Plan and schedule work for the completion of daily customer work orders.
- Plan and coordinate the daily, weekly, and monthly projects, including floor and carpet maintenance, window cleaning, other cleaning projects, and College reunion and summer cleaning needs. Schedule equipment moving and other logistics as needed.
- Provide coverage and support for Cleaning Team Leader – Quality and Training and/or Cleaning Supervisor as needed.
The starting pay range for this position will be $20.50/hour. Compensation based on your skills and experience.
Education/Skills Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate and relate well with a variety of people both on and off campus.
- Ability to work successfully both independently and in a team with minimum supervision.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to lead a group to successful task completion.
- Valid driver’s license required and must meet the eligibility requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and e-mail; willingness and initiative to use technology and learn new software applications as necessary.
Preferred:
- Prior experience using work order system software.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
- Minimum of four years of related experience at an institution of higher education or equivalent, including a minimum of one year in a trainer or supervisory capacity.
- Experience developing and implementing cleaning schedules for both daily work and projects.
- Effective time management skills.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of cleaning time standards for housekeeping tasks.
- Prior experience using cleaning industry management software and maintenance management software is preferred.
Standard Work Days and Hours
- Standard Cleaning schedules include: 5:00 am – 1:30 pm.; 7:00 am – 3:30 pm; 3:00 – 11:30 pm; days of the week may vary.
- Primary schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 5:00 am to 1:30 pm.
- Special events and coverage issues may necessitate overtime hours, including weekends and holidays. Work assignments are reviewed and revised as necessary.
