The Early Intervention Nurse Case Manager initiates clinical assessment of injured workers’ reported injuries, reviews available medical data, screens, assesses, stratifies, evaluates and coordinates the need for nurse case intervention and cost-effective medical treatment in support of the Claim Department goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review current medical information and initiate telephonic contact with recently injured workers to assess injury severity, clinical complexity, and current medical status.
  • Assess and identify factors related to the injury, and other clinical and social factors that may require further follow-up and/or services.
  • Identify and communicate urgent situations related to treatment or patient condition directly to the claim and managed care services teams.
  • Initiate appropriate referrals for Telephonic Case Management.
  • Provide clinical input regarding appropriate and cost effective medical, surgical and/or claim resources.
  • Collaborate with claim professionals as a medical resource and clinical coach to promote optimal outcomes.
  • Handle a caseload of telephonic case management files, based on business needs.

Requirements:

  • Current unencumbered RN Licensure required; licensure in a nurse compact licensure state (NLC) strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years direct clinical care focused on adult consumers required. Experience in Workers’ Compensation, occupational nursing, disability insurance, or telephone triage preferred.
  • Excellent negotiation and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), analytical and organization skills are essential.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, while able to gather and analyze information.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Must have proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently is essential.
  • Ability to effectively manage workload within productivity, quality, and service standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based corporate environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage workload, and operate with a sense of urgency.
