POSITION OVERVIEW: ESOL Teacher (Part Time) - Casco Bay High, 25-26 SY
Casco Bay High School is seeking an energetic, creative, and master teacher of Multilingual Learners (MLs).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
In Portland Public Schools, ESOL teachers:
- Provide and support rigorous and appropriate instruction aligned with the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and the Common Core to meet grade level expectations for MLs including newcomers; co-teaching within Gen Ed classes possible
- Collaborate and consult with general education teachers to enhance acquisition of English in all language domains necessary to participate and make progress in general education content classes; Grade level and content area focus
- Provide on-going staff development as necessary on language acquisition and acculturation, sheltered instruction, and effective practices in teaching MLs
- Use school and student level data to inform instruction and programming supports for MLs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
A successful candidate will also have:
- Extensive knowledge and experience with the cultures and languages of our students and families
- Excellent interpersonal skills in order to collaborate effectively with all general education teachers and other educational support staff
- The ability to provide ongoing staff development and leadership as a specialist of language development
- Expertise in building relationships with multilingual families
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
To be considered for this position you must currently hold a valid MDOE teacher certificate with ESOL endorsement
CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
- Maine State Teacher Certificate with 660 Endorsement (ESOL, PK-12) (more info)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as needed
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:
- School-year position
- Permanent
- Part time, 0.5 FTE
- Salaried position, not eligible for overtime
- Covered under the PEA contract (see 2022-2025 CBA here; contract currently under negotation as of May 2025)
- Salary based on education and experience, as outlined in CBA

Casco Bay High School is a small and rigorous public high school that reflects the increasing diversity of Portland, Maine. Founded in 2005, CBHS is a school of choice for about 400 students.
