The Histology and Imaging Core Technician provides support for the COBRE Histology and Imaging Core Laboratory at the University of New England (UNE). The technician will be responsible for performing all aspects of histology, including tissue collection, trimming, processing, and embedding, paraffin/frozen sectioning, staining, and immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence. Additionally, the technician will use microscopy/imaging techniques to assess staining and document work completed. The successful applicant will have previous lab experience, with histology, immunohistochemistry and microscopy experience highly desirable but not required. Critical thinking, flexibility, the ability to work independently, and a strong willingness to learn are essential.

Responsibilities
- Trim, process, embed and section tissue (paraffin and cryosections).
- Stain tissue with routine and special stains.
- Perform immunohistochemical staining and troubleshooting.
- Utilize light microscopy (brightfield, widefield, confocal) to obtain images for analysis.
- Prepare reagents and standards according to lab SOPs.
- Oversee maintenance & upkeep of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain complete and accurate logs containing methodological details.
- Maintain laboratory in a clean and safe fashion.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, or related field required, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Previous lab experience, with histology, immunohistochemistry and microscopy experience highly desirable but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to collaborate effectively with others.
