ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for almost every aspect of a patient’s preventative care, perinatal care, childbirth and gynecological care
  • Participating in building collaborative CNM service line with OBGYN physicians for inpatient and outpatient care of InterMed OBGYN patients
  • Diagnoses, monitors and examines patients during pregnancy.
  • Develops, assesses and evaluates individual care plans.
  • Provides full prenatal care, including screening tests.
    • This includes group prenatal care following the Centering Pregnancy model.
  • Identifies high risk pregnancies and makes referrals to doctors and other medical specialists.
  • Arranges and provides education regarding parenting and health
  • Provides counselling and advice before and after screening and tests
  • Offers support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death
  • Gives support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding and bathing
  • Liaison with agencies and other health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care
  • Documents in electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Prescribes medication
  • Orders diagnostic and/or therapeutic tests, i.e. labs, x-rays
  • Participates in QPMR/quality measure work
  • Participates in NP/PA group meetings and organizational committees
  • Performs other duties as required
  • The CNM will participate in quality measure initiatives, NP/PA group meetings and organizational committees as follows:
    • Attend 2 of 3 NP/PA Whole Group Meetings Annually
    • Attend 75% of Department Specific Meetings Annually

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain at all times the qualifications for obtaining and maintaining privileges as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
  • License to practice in the state of Maine
  • DEA License
  • Willingness to become a Certified Centering Facilitator
  • Knowledge of healthcare procedures
  • Counseling/advising competence
  • Independent decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Interpersonal/human relations skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience with EMR preferred
