Clinical Services Nurse Supervisor

South Portland, Maine


Chest Medicine Associates is seeking a Clinical Services Nurse Supervisor, to be based in the South Portland office. The Nurse Supervisor will oversee the overall flow of the Clinical Services department, supervise clinical support staff (rooming technicians and medical assistants), and participate in providing day-to-day clinical support in a busy pulmonary and sleep medicine practice. This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, with no overnight or weekend coverage.

Requirements of the Clinical Services Nurse Supervisor:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or APRN with active Maine license.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices and standards.
  • Five (5) years of experience directly providing patient care.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience in a medical office practice and advanced coursework in health care management/leadership preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association-issued BLS.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills for effective and tactful interactions with patients, families, physicians, and employees.
  • Evidence of management skills: capacity to assume responsibility and exercise authority; sound judgment and discretion; organizational skills; ability to prioritize work; proficiency in change management and problem-solving.
  • Strong ability to engage and motivate staff.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to concentrate and give attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations at times.
  • Previous experience in mentoring and training.
  • Experience working with electronic health record and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work onsite M-F in South Portland, Maine

Responsibilities of the Clinical Services Nurse Supervisor:

  • Responsible for all operational aspects of Clinical Services department.
  • Manages overall patient flow to ensure exceptional, effective, and efficient patient care.
  • Manages and optimizes operational workflows in Clinical Services.
  • Supervises clinical support staff and designates assignments.
  • Develops, optimizes, and adjusts clinical support staff schedule.
  • Develops, updates, and implements clinical policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with HR and practice leadership to interview, hire, onboard and coordinate training of clinical support staff.
  • Educates, develops, trains, and ensure competencies of clinical support staff.
  • Ensures calls and portal messages for Clinical Services are handled courteously, promptly, appropriately, and effectively by clinical support staff.
  • Oversees and participates in telephone triage and processing prescription refills.
  • Oversees and participates in the completion of prior authorization requests for medications and imaging.
  • Communicates and collaborates with physicians and APPs to implement patient care.
  • Collaborates with physicians, APPs, clinical support staff to maximize the volume of clinical services, patient flow, and practice productivity.
  • Provides patient teaching.
  • Performs pulse oximetry during ambulation, nebulizer treatments, and other medical procedures.
  • Orders, distributes, and returns clinical supplies for practice.
  • Oversees exam room sanitization and supply stocking.
  • Protects patients and employees by ensuring adherence to infection control policies and protocols.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Collaborates in the coordination of practice-wide safety drills.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
