Maine Correctional Center is seeking creative, outcome-driven candidates for the position of Teacher BS Transition in Windham, ME. This is a year-round, 236 day position. The primary purpose of the position is to teach academic subjects to students housed at Maine Correctional Center. Responsibilities include testing students, developing curricula and educational plans, instructing classes, and evaluating student progress to help prepare them for educational or career pathways upon release.

Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelors Degree in Education or related field.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Maine Teacher's Certificate for appropriate subject and/or grade(s) as issued by the Department of education.
Responsibilities Include but are not Limited To:
- Evaluate student academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Maintain student discipline through adherence to accepted policies and regulations.
- Assist students in the development of desirable work habits, attitudes, and skills.
- Prepare lesson plans in accordance with curriculum.
- Meet with and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Create a classroom/career area environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
- Knowledge of department functions, objectives, policies and programs.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, classroom instruction and educational planning.
- Teach reading and writing principles and courses.
- Assess student needs and develop/modify instruction as necessary.
- Work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
- Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students.
