JOB SUMMARY The Assistant International Student Advisor will support the range of OGS functions at the Roux Institute, bolstering the student experience at Northeastern University’s newest regional site. Reporting to the Associate Director of International Student Services for U.S. Regional Campuses, the assistant advisor will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and will participate in the support of international students’ immigration advising and support. The general duties of the Assistant Advisor are as follows 1) assist and collaborate with the regional campus advising team, providing front-line student support through email and document processing; 2) monitor the workflow and timeliness of processing in the office, including attentive review and support of the OGS case management systems and emails, 3) assist with the reporting of certain SEVIS events either by batching or SEVIS RTI direct entry; and 4) support data auditing by reviewing alerts and reports and, consequently, flagging cases requiring immediate compliance analysis from an advisor. Specifically, the International Student Assistant Advisor will contribute to the processing of Certificates of Eligibility (I-20 and DS-2019 forms) for students and scholars in non-immigrant visa classifications and review of documentation for other study-eligible visa types. They may also assist with processing and/ or pre-screening of other documentation, including but not limited to program extensions, transfers, work authorization, travel support, and more. The Assistant Advisor will be provided complete training on all the job duties and will be expected to maintain knowledge of all operational functions to support the advising team. The Assistant Advisor will also support activities aimed at improving and maximizing the student experience, including orientation and other campus events in which OGS representation is required. This role serves as the frontline of contact for students, scholars and others who seek the services from the Office of Global Services (OGS). The person in this role will provide front desk coverage, answer phone calls, create schedules for advising appointments, as well as screen and process immigration-based inquiries.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Some knowledge of or training in international student advising (F-1 and J-1 visa classifications) plus a strong customer service background is preferred. Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task in a demanding work environment. Should possess thorough knowledge of office procedures, good judgment, discretion, and patience. Familiar with and comfortable working with computer database systems and PC-based network environment. Knowledge and skills typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one year of professional work experience. US citizenship or lawful permanent residency are required in order to be a Designated School Official (DSO) / Alternate Responsible Official (ARO). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 1) Student Services Screen immigration-based questions and respond to students, scholars, and visitors who enter and call the office. Support advising schedules as needed. Provide excellent customer service by taking messages for advisors and making referrals to appropriate advisor or other offices on campus. Generally providing an efficient, friendly, and overall professional customer service experience. Manage workflow to OGS advisors. Prescreen submitted requests for any that require immediate attention; communicating with students if any required documents are missing, etc. Work with OGS staff as well as other university partners to help students complete their requests. 2) Data Entry Enter information into OGS Batching system. Assist with developing/maintaining e-forms and web site content (such as updates to web site information, links, forms, etc.).
