Mission
The mission of the Portland Public Schools is to ensure a challenging, relevant, and joyful education that empowers every learner to make a difference in the world. We build relationships among families, educators, and the community to promote the healthy development and academic achievement of every learner.
Objectives
The Make it Happen member will help oversee the Make it Happen Center in one of Portland Public Schools' high schools, focusing on academic support and social-emotional learning. Collaborate with guidance counselors, teachers, and administrators to design student-centered approaches. Engage youth in building strong academic, civic, professional, and personal profiles. Provide individualized support to seniors for college and financial aid applications. Conduct academic coaching. Promote enrollment in Honors and AP courses. Encourage participation in Make it Happen events and test prep with community partners. Foster civic engagement through leadership, community service, and professional development opportunities. This is a full-time, in-person role.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates are motivated, skilled in developing student academic profiles, process superb interpersonal and organizational skills, and can engage and motivate students while setting high academic standards. A comprehensive understanding of the college application process is also desired.
AmeriCorps Benefits
- $16,800 living allowance paid biweekly ($840 each check before taxes).
- Segal Education Award of $5,176.50 (upon successful completion of the term) to apply to previous federal student loans or continuing education costs at a qualifying Title IV institution
- Forbearance for applicable student loans + repayment for any interest accrued on eligible student loans during the term, paid by AmeriCorps
