Job Description

Brunswick School Department is seeking an Inclusion Strategist for grades K-2 at Kate Furbish Elementary School.

Kate Furbish Elementary School is a large and nurturing learning community serving 600 students from Pre-K through Grade 2 in Brunswick, Maine. We are committed to fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning in every child. Our staff is passionate about early childhood development and dedicated to creating an inclusive and joyful classroom experience.

We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and experienced special education teacher, administrator, or specialist with leadership and special education experience to join our team to help our youngest learners access their education across different settings. This is a student-centered position that aligns students with appropriate resources, helps maximize placement success, and liaises with regular education teachers, special education teachers, and families. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of special, inclusive, and early childhood education, a commitment to collaboration, knowledge of early elementary programming and systems, and a passion for helping young learners grow academically, socially, and emotionally.


Requirements:

  • Maine Department of Education certification in special education (282), assistant special education administration (035), assistant building administration (040), or other closely applicable area.
  • Current knowledge of special education best practices, regulations, and issues of confidentiality.
  • Three or more years of professional elementary teaching experience (special education preferred)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the alignment of special education needs with school and district resources.
  • Collaborate effectively with the teachers, educational technicians, IEP coordinator, building administrators, and district administrators to facilitate student success.
  • Assist administrators with special education staffing assignments and daily management of staffing to support students and programs.
  • Assist teachers, educational technicians, administrators, and other educators with crisis management, meeting facilitation, and incident documentation.
  • Act as the district representative (LEA) for targeted IEP meetings as warranted.
  • Collaborate with team members to create and maintain inclusion plans for targeted students to support the increase of time in less restrictive settings.
  • Coach and support general education teachers, special education teachers, and other staff on inclusion across all settings.
  • Provide training and ensure proper implementation of SafetyCare, safety fidelity checks, and environmental safety supports on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and students related to student programming.
  • Provide targeted case management as warranted.
  • Work effectively with the PreK Strategist and Child Development Services (CDS) as appropriate.
  • Attend IEP meetings as directed by the district administration
  • Have a reflective and open-mindset with a willingness to grow and develop professionally.
