Job Summary
Bowdoin College is located in Brunswick Maine with a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and are consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop, and organic garden that all supply food to our 2 dining halls and 3 retail locations.
The Kitchen Assistant is a part-time, entry level position providing assistance to Bowdoin dining service employees in food production and service areas. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with food preparation, servery set-up and replenishment, and customer food service.
- Sanitation duties as assigned which include but is not limited to, sweeping and moping floors, working the dish room and pots & pans cleaning area, wiping walls, tables, and chairs, cleaning employee restrooms, all kitchen cooking equipment, refrigerated, frozen, and dry storage area, and loading dock area.
- Greeting and assisting dining service patrons
- Providing coverage for the front and back of the house, filling in as needed.
Pay rate: $16.25/per hour
Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
- 9th Grade Education or higher.
- Strong problem solving and customer service skills
- Ability to understand and practice recycling and sustainability practices.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, multi-task efficiently,
- Ability to follow written and oral direction
- Ability to perform simple mathematic equations
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must demonstrate good personal hygiene practices.
Preferred:
- Interest in learning or prior experience in basic food and ingredient preparation techniques and knife skills (chopping, dicing, slicing).
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
- No prior experience necessary. Willing to train the right candidate for the role!
Preferred:
- Some related experiences.
Standard Work Days and Hours
- This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position working less than 20 hours/ week.
- Willing to work with candidates on their availability.
