FIREFIGHTER/EMT

The City of Portland is now accepting applications for Firefighter/EMT

The Fire Department of the City of Portland has integrated the delivery of Fire Suppression and Emergency Medical Services and expects successful applicants to perform both functions.  Requirements:  Must hold and maintain a valid Maine EMT- Basic or higher EMS license.  Candidates with State FF I and II certification are desired.  EMT-B’s will be required to obtain certification as an EMT-A within one year of employment.  Candidates who laterally transfer from their current career Fire or EMS service with three years of full-time experience will enter the pay scale at step 2 (3-5 years) of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.   Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of post high school employment or three years of post high school education at a college or university or any equivalent combination of post high school education and work experience totaling three years.  Applicants will be required to pass a background check, Portland Fire Department Physical Ability Test or present with a valid IAFF/IAFC Candidate Physical Ability Test card, must complete a Job Suitability Assessment, and a medical exam. 

Starting salary:  $799.68/week with additional pay for EMT-A or EMT-P certification, plus excellent fringe benefits.

Date, time and location of Physical Ability Test (PAT) to be determined.
