The Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) is seeking a dedicated individual to lead and coordinate efforts aimed at strengthening community reintegration for recently released residents of state facilities. This position will be responsible for implementing and overseeing strategies that support their successful reintegration into the community. Key responsibilities include program and policy development, as well as the creation of effective practices and procedures to support their rehabilitation.

The role will be based primarily in Augusta, ME, with the flexibility to work remotely on certain days, as well as statewide travel to satellite locations, including but not limited to MDOC correctional facilities, field offices, and transitional living programs.

The position requires staying updated on reentry resources and best practices to implement effective strategies. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records and data, building and nurturing relationships with community and social service agencies, participating in grant initiatives, and engaging in community and MDOC activities. The role also involves facilitating programs, supporting staff and workforce development, and collaborating with all MDOC divisions to ensure program success.

Minimum Requirements to Apply:

Education, training, and/or experience in a behavioral science, human services, social science, criminal justice area, or a closely related field which provides a solid background in rehabilitation, community reintegration, or social services.

Preference will be given to those with direct experience in correctional programming.

Responsibilities Include:

· Plans, coordinates and evaluates program activities in order to establish priorities and ensure program objectives are established and maintained

· Develops, implements and maintains quality assurance systems and activities in order to monitor programs

· Recommends changes to existing policies and procedures to ensure the program adheres to the principles of effective correctional interventions

· Collaborates with management and education teams in formulating goals and objectives to ensure adherence to best practices

· Consults with administrations, field personnel, local and state officials and program participants in order to coordinate programs and resolve issues related to program delivery

· Develops training in conjunction with education personnel consistent with normative culture that models best practices to ensure all staff are appropriately educated on reentry and recovery matters.

Desirable Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • State and Federal laws, regulations, and guidelines governing the administration of offender management programs.
  • MDOC goals, objectives, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Correctional program development.

Ability to:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate multiple, diverse programs and activities.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and explain federal, state, and local policies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, employees, and external stakeholders.
