JOB TITLE:             Director, FSQA & Regulatory

HOURS:                  Primarily day shift. May require working nights during the Harvest.

REPORTS TO:        VP of Operations, Supply Chain & Agriculture

LOCATION:           Cherryfield / Hancock facility (open to Portland with frequent travel)

 

General Position Summary

The Director of Food Safety, Quality Assurance and Regulatory is Wyman’s subject matter expert in all aspects of food safety, quality assurance and regulatory compliance. This individual is a creative problem solver and strong relationship-builder capable of influencing and implementing a best-in-class food-safety culture across all internal and external sites. The Director of FSQA & Regulatory will provide leadership, along with technical, science-based expertise in all food safety, quality assurance and regulatory compliance programs. The Director effectively collaborates across all internal facilities, external suppliers/co-manufacturers and various government entities. The position is responsible for the execution and implementation of corporate level food safety and quality programs throughout all sites.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead an international FSQA Team encompassing farm level, internal manufacturing sites, co-manufacturers, and warehouses.
  • Assure the execution of, and adherence to Wyman’s Food Safety and Quality programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement corporate Quality Management System strategies and Quality Continuous Improvement programs within our farm and manufacturing facilities to ensure consistency across the organization and enhance performance to meet and exceed internal, customer, and regulatory FSQA standards.
  • Develop departmental metrics (targets, goals and KPI’s) to enhance overall Food Safety & Quality performance.
  • Ability to create and execute strategic plans to meet KPI’s while complying with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Serve as a strategic leader at farm and manufacturing site level to lead continuous improvement and FSQA growth initiatives
  • Statistically analyze quality data and identify potential problem areas to prevent issues.
  • Maintains strong relationships with key customers, USDA, FDA, and other regulatory bodies as required.
  • Oversee customer complaint procedure, reporting and action plans ensuring all items are addressed in a timely fashion.
  • Provide accurate and timely feedback to senior leadership on facility-based needs that will enable the consistent execution of food safety and high-quality product production.
  • Plan, prepare and develop departmental budgets that reflect competitive advantage for the company.
  • Function as an FSQA subject matter expert and liaison to all corporate, internal and exterior partners.
  • Manage all quality issues, market withdrawals and recalls with regards to corporate level operations.

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of supplier and contract manufacturing FSQA
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis and Corrective / Preventative Actions
  • Ability to communicate technical data with stakeholders
  • Experience utilizing Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques

 

Education & Work Experience

  • BS in Food Science or related Science/Engineering field. Masters preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in Food Safety and Quality Management with F&B. Frozen preferred.
  • Strong regulatory and GFSI scheme understanding (specifically SQF)
  • Extensive knowledge of FDA, USDA and CFIA food regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of core Food Safety and Quality programs (FSMA, HACCP, GMP, FSVP, EMP, Food Defense)
  • Experience managing a team across multiple facilities. International is a plus.

  • Lean Six Sigma is a plus
