Summary:
The Psychiatric Technician provides therapeutic care for people with mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual disorders. The Psychiatric Technician functions within the multidisciplinary treatment team under the supervision of professional staff. Psychiatric Technicians assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal care, and aid in recovery with a focus on social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Acts as a subject matter expert to lower level staff and routinely handles more complex/challenging cases. Additional duties include acting as a preceptor and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being and reports changes in behavior or physical ailments to professional staff.
- Responds to patient needs taking into consideration developmental stage and psychiatric symptoms
- Takes a mindful and thoughtful approach to all patient interactions, maintains appropriate boundaries.
- Functions within the patient care team focusing on successful treatment and stabilization
- Maintains a safe environment complying with NLH policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
- Cross trained with flexibility to work in two (2) other Inpatient/POU hospital services
- Provides one (1) educational presentation per year
- Participates in one (1) Quality Improvement project per year
- Acts as Preceptor and has completed Preceptor Program training
