POSITION OVERVIEW: 9th Grade Earth Science Teacher - Portland High, 25-26 SY

Portland High School is seeking a highly qualified, enthusiastic individual with Physical Science certification to fill a 9th grade Earth Science position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of Earth Science, a genuine interest in working with a diverse student population, and a desire to collaborate as part of a freshman team. Willingness to teach a section of Freshman Seminar, a year-long class that focuses on helping students build academic and social skills is also required. Candidates should have experience in authentic and inquiry-based lesson planning and must be motivated to personalize learning for all students.

To be considered for this position you must currently hold a valid MDOE teacher certificate with Physical Science endorsement.

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
  • Maine State Teacher Certificate with 350 Endorsement (Physical Science, 6-12) (more info)

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:
  • School-year position
  • Permanent
  • Full Time, 1.0 FTE
  • Salaried position, not eligible for overtime
  • Covered under the PEA contract (see 2022-2025 CBA here; contract currently under negotation as of May 2025)
  • Salary based on education and experience, as outlined in CBA
  • Eligible for benefits as outlined here (may not be updated with 25-26 plan information or $ amounts)
