SUMMARY: The LPS Elementary Strings teacher provides direct instruction to beginning and intermediate strings students in grades 4-6 across five elementary schools. The Elementary Strings Teacher serves as an active member of school staff. This position also includes a stipend for after elementary orchestra.

Salary: $41,286.41 - $77,875.35

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at designated times.
  • Follows a curriculum aligned to state/national standards.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Uses behavior management approaches consistent with district and building philosophy.
  • Stays current in music education field.
  • Maintains appropriate record keeping.
  • Takes an active role in professional learning community work.
  • May transport materials to specific buildings, arrange and set up classrooms
  • Maintains inventory of instruments and equipment, budgets for and requisitions supplies
  • Plans and directs performances.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises classroom and students.

Education and Experience:

  • Required: Minimum Educational Attainment of a Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Experience playing and instructing beginning strings students across a full range of instruments.
  • Maine 614 K-12 Music Teacher Certification (or eligible)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continuously stand, and occasionally walk and sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently will use manual dexterity and or finger dexterity while performing the duties of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read music or handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will frequently drive while performing the duties of this job. The employee will hear conversations in a quiet and noisy environment and have the ability to tell where a sound is coming from.
