SUMMARY: Join an innovative team of educators supporting students with special needs in a unique and specialized setting attached to a community school. To meet the needs of students with complex learning and developmental needs, Lewiston Schools has established a multidisciplinary intensive education program designed to support students with individualized programming while encouraging them to benefit from their peers and offer access to naturalistic teaching settings.
This role is part of a highly supported team building on a strong programmatic structure for all classrooms with opportunities to individualize and innovate. The CNA/Med Tech BHP will support the special educator and team of BHPs by communicating with healthcare providers regarding student medical plans, dispensing medication, monitoring symptoms of illnesses and/or injuries as they arise. This role offers opportunity for leadership and collaboration across disciplines in order to best support students.
Hourly Pay/Salary Range: $26.54 - 33.19 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned (see program handbook)
- Communicate with outside healthcare providers and implement student medical care plans.
- Dispense student medication.
- Teach and support students with feeding skills.
- Teach and support students in activities of daily living and self care.
- Provide support to the program in times of staffing need including:
- Implementation of individualized lesson plans, Positive Behavior Support Plans and/or Individualized Crisis Behavior Management Plans.
- Collect individualized and group data across the school day.
- Support and teach students using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) across the school day.
- Direct services in the program, by nature, require a staff’s constant attention. This includes but is not limited to:
- Following precautions set forth in PBSP and by BCBA/Clinician direction
- Keeping calm in unforeseen circumstances being thoughtful of variables that may, or may not maintain challenging behavior.
- Being mindful of clothing choice worn on a daily basis (i.e. employees must wear
closed-toe shoes).
- Refraining from cell phone use, except during personal breaks.
- Expectation to attend the Professional Development sessions on Wednesdays after the scheduled shift.
COURSE OF YEAR & SCHEDULE:
This is a full time role working a program-specific calendar aligned to Lewiston Public School’s academic year with 6 weeks of full time summer services as well as additional summer professional learning days.

- Directions and Recommendations given by Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration should be followed through with to the greatest extent possible.
- Communication between Ed. Techs should be appropriate to the environment and audience which surrounds them.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Eligible for BHP Certification. DOE Certification CHRC and/or Ed Tech Certification.
Valid CNA Certification.
