Job Summary:
The Communication Specialist supports Goodwill’s mission by creating compelling content to increase awareness, engagement, and community support. This role focuses on storytelling, digital media management, and content creation, helping to promote the agency’s programs, services, and impact.
The Communication Specialist is expected to:
- Develop messaging and content that highlights the agency's mission, services, and impact
- Produce content, photographs and videos for marketing and promotional use for internal and external audiences. This includes interviewing and photographing/videotaping people at various locations
- Assist in donor campaign execution, such as the annual giving campaigns, donor communications, and cultivation events
- Assist with social media management, including community management, content production, and scheduling, across all platforms
- Support the production and distribution of newsletters, press releases, website content, success stories, and email campaigns
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging across the agency
- Assist in tracking and reporting digital performance metrics (social, website, email).
- Participate in media outreach and public relations support
- Maintain and organize digital asset libraries and marketing documentation, such as consent forms.
- Coordinate photo and video production with external vendors
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in a communications, marketing, or digital content role (internships or volunteer experience count).
- Strong written, verbal, and visual storytelling skills.
- Functional knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube).
- Comfortable using tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and email marketing software like Mailchimp.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Successful completion of a background check that meets Agency standards
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and insurance that meets Agency standards
Essential Functions:
Communication:
- Manage the creation of copy and content for external/internal facing audiences, including video, email marketing, website content, press releases, bylined articles, social media posts, op-eds on behalf of leadership, annual sustainability reports, and speeches
- Manage the Agency’s photo and video library
- Assist with pitching stories to press to generate earned media coverage
- Manage collaboration with internal customers to ensure consistent delivery of message on multiple platforms throughout the agency.
- Serve as a primary media spokesperson for the organization
- Represent the Agency in all interactions with other members of the Goodwill community and with the general public, supporting the Agency’s vision of creating sustainable communities that thrive through the fullest participation of their diverse residents
- Openness to receiving and implementing feedback
Knowledge:
- Understand current trends in digital and social media
- Understand, practice and communicate Goodwill’s mission
Administration:
- Occasionally write or edit other departments’ content for tone, voice and clarity
Financial:
- Manage content budgetary considerations, within the parameters of the annual operating budget
