TITLE: CUSTODIAN w/ School Bus License

POSITION: Full-time, year round position; includes storm days, summer breaks, scrub weeks

IDENTIFICATION: This position is a 40 hour per week position; there may be some hours in excess of pre-established hours. The position is primarily a 2nd shift position; there may be some required change to shifts based on district needs to cover leave requests and special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School graduate or GED preferred
  2. Hold a valid CDL Class B Maine Driver’s License with passenger and school bus endorsements
  3. Must have passed a physical exam directed by state requirements and comply with stipulations recommended by the district’s examining physician.
  4. Ability to read and comprehend technical information.
  5. Ability to work safely with chemicals and equipment.
  6. Ability to work cooperatively with other employees. Be a team player.
  7. Self directed/ motivated.
  8. Job requires physical ability to lift 40 lbs., stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift, push, pull, and bend for extended periods.

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation and Custodial Services and/or Operations Supervisor

POSITION GOAL: This position's goal is to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school or events. To provide a safe and clean learning environment enabling the students to take the fullest advantage of the district's total educational program. To respect the district and its personnel and represent it with the utmost professionalism.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain a Class B Maine State Drivers License with passenger and school bus endorsements
  2. Ability to pass any district, state, or federal mandated physical examinations
  3. Perform pre-trip inspections of district vehicles in accordance with Transportation Policies
  4. Be able to check oil, coolant, and fuel at proper operating levels
  5. Maintain vehicle in proper, safe, and clean condition
  6. Report defects or mechanical failures of vehicle on proper documentation provided by the district transportation office
  7. Be able to supervise and discipline all passengers in a professional manner
  8. Report students needing further disciplinary action to the Director of Transportation and Custodial Services or his/her designee.
  9. Observe and obey all district, local, and state traffic laws
  10. Keep to assigned route at all times; discharge of passengers at authorized stops only
  11. Offer input in regards to bus routes, stops, and notify transportation office of any changes
  12. Notify transportation office if vehicle is running late; maintains proper radio etiquette
  13. Perform at least 3 emergency evacuations for each trip of students each year; provide transportation office of proper emergency evacuation documentation
  14. Attend all transportation safety meetings and conferences as directed by Director of Transportation or their designee
  15. Report ALL accidents to Director of Transportation immediately
  16. Wear proper uniform attire and maintains serviceability
  17. Be able to follow district policies; contractual obligations with professional attitude
  18. Follow all necessary requirements of time clock procedures
  19. Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
  20. Perform additional duties as directed by the Director of Transportation and Custodial Services and/or their designee
  21. Participate in the Driving Dynamics course as recommended by the State and required by the district
  22. Perform general custodial and maintenance duties at the assigned location(s).
  23. Provide an adequate custodial inventory of materials and supplies on your custodial cart and closet.
  24. Perform emergency custodial duties during the school day (if scheduled).
  25. Replace materials as needed in areas that are maintained by Custodial Services
  26. Maintain the building in a safe, neat and orderly fashion.
  27. Help keep the grounds and play areas free from litter.
  28. Use proper operation and cleaning methods for any machinery or equipment
  29. Use proper cleaning methods for spaces that you are responsible for
  30. Assume responsibility for the general security of the building.
  31. Assume responsibility for the general fire safety of the building.
  32. Maintain communication between the Lead Custodian in regards to building needs or problems
  33. Report maintenance issues to the Lead Custodian
  34. Participate in any professional development the district offers for Custodial Services
  35. Become familiar with all emergency procedures of the building including valves, switches and other building equipment.
  36. Offer input to the Lead Custodian and/or Operations Supervisor in regards to materials, equipment, procedures, and maintenance needs.
  37. Know and understand the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  38. Participate in the Driving Dynamics course as recommended by the State and required by the district
  39. Must become CPR certified; and maintain certification throughout employment
  40. Perform additional duties as directed by the Lead Custodian, Operations Supervisor, Director of Transportation and Custodial Services and/or their designee.
