Contract Portland, Maine

  • Location: Portland, Maine
  • Type: Contract
  • Job #20427

ProSearch, representing a confidential client, invites applications from Senior DevOps Engineers with 8+ years of experience for a remote opportunity, ideally located in Maine.

Why this is an exceptional opportunity
Join a forward-thinking software team working on a strategic migration to a new GitHub Enterprise environment. You’ll be the technical backbone supporting multiple teams as they transition their repositories, users, and automation pipelines into this next-generation platform. This is your chance to take a senior DevOps lead role where your expertise makes a real mark, working remotely, based in or connected to Maine.

What you’ll do

  • Serve as the principal DevOps engineer for the GitHub Enterprise migration initiative: design, coordinate, and execute migration plans.

  • Manage Git, GitHub Organization Administration, GitHub Enterprise Administration, GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot, and GitHub Enterprise Managed Users.

  • Develop automation in Python that runs locally, in Docker containers, and on AWS Lambda, streamlining deployment and scaling processes.

  • Collaborate with software teams to drive test-driven development (TDD), strong documentation practices, and quality code standards.

  • Automate build, test, deployment, and monitoring pipelines across development, staging, and production environments.

  • Troubleshoot, refine, and resolve operational or infrastructure issues before they impact performance.

  • Build tools, playbooks, and processes that improve deployment speed, reduce risk, and increase developer productivity.

  • Support multiple platforms and integrate identity/access management where needed, including Azure Entra AD for SSO.

What we’re looking for

Must-have skills:

  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps engineering or platform engineering roles.

  • Deep expertise in Git, GitHub (Organization, Enterprise, Managed Users), GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot.

  • Expert-level Python development: building automation, Docker containers, AWS Lambda.

  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) and strong tooling around CI/CD and infrastructure as code.

  • Agile methodology experience and ability to coordinate across software teams and business units.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills—able to engage as the point of contact for migration efforts.

  • Strong curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to learn new systems/tools as the environment evolves.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience using Azure Entra AD for identity and access management (IAM) and integrating SSO solutions.

  • Background working with web applications built in Python/Flask or related frameworks.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience is required.

Why you’ll love working here

  • Remote-friendly environment with preference for Maine-based candidates; enjoy work-life balance and top-tier flexibility.

  • A meaningful, high-impact assignment: you’ll be driving a transformative migration that sets the foundation for years of growth.

  • Collaborative, inclusive team culture that values documentation, testing, and continuous improvement.

  • Opportunity to lead and shape tools and processes, not just support them.

  • Company supported by ProSearch, trusted talent partner with robust client engagements and a reputation for excellence.
