Summary of Work:
This is a professional, full time (full year), salaried teaching position. Day and evening hours required. Responsibilities include comprehensive instructional services aligned with standards in reading, writing and speaking English to English language learners, along with teaching adult basic skills in the content areas of English, math and HiSET prep to learners with less than a 9th grade proficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to teach multiple subjects and multiple levels based on student and program needs
Differentiates instruction to meet individual student needs
Establishes relationships with adult learners, understands learners’ goals and tailors learning opportunities to individual learning plans
Establishes a safe, organized, and welcoming learning environment
Provides on-going formative assessments to track learner progress and summative assessments in accordance with state DOE requirements; conferences with learners regularly
Maintains student records and shares this information with office staff as requested
Collaborates with program staff as appropriate to optimize instructional opportunities for all learners
Participates in staff meetings as required and professional development opportunities annually
Assists with supervision of learners and building supervision
Other duties as assigned by the Director

Job Requirements
- QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledgeable about adult learning theory and practice
Strong knowledge of teaching English to non-native English speakers
Prior experience teaching ESOL
Demonstrated proficiency with technology
Experience with distance learning preferred
Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s degree preferred
Secondary Education certification preferred
Maine State Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) authorization required
Ability to work days and evenings as scheduled
- At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
- Master degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
