  • Advanced Practice Professional: The Diabetes Clinic Provider is a clinical position held by a PA or NP that provides direct medical services to patients with diabetes who have specific needs for intensive medication management of the disease. This provider evaluates patients, orders testing and treatment in accord with current standards of practice for treatment of diabetes and refers patients for education and medical nutrition as appropriate to patient need. Working with the Medical Director of the Clinic, this provider is responsible for approving standing medication orders for patient treatment and approve specific policies related to intensive medication management of diabetes. This position will work collaboratively with the Regional Manager as necessary for practice staff and operations. This position collaborates with the Medical Staff, Dietitians, Nurses, Administration, support and ancillary services personnel to assure safe, quality outpatient care. Other duties may be as requested or delegated by the Chief Operations Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Ambulatory Medical Director and/or the Director of Physician Practices.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Accepted and Credentialed by Waldo County General Hospital Medical Staff Process.
    • Physician Assistant:
      • Certification by the Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and eligibility for temporary and eventual, full registration with the Maine Board of Registration in Medicine.
    • Nurse Practitioners:
      • Must be a registered nurse and have completed an advanced education program approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing and the Maine Board of Registration in Medicine.
    • Advanced Practice Professional must be eligible to obtain a Drug Enforcement Agency number in order to write prescriptions according to federal law.
    • Previous experience in direct treatment of patients with diabetes preferred.
    • Certification in initiation of insulin pumps preferred.
    • CDE preferred.
    • BCLS is required.
