We are seeking a Director of Clinical Operations to provide strategic leadership, expert clinical guidance, and regulatory oversight across our six Homes. This is a key leadership position for an experienced nurse leader who thrives in a collaborative, mission-oriented environment.

About the Role:
The Director of Clinical Operations (DCO) is responsible for supporting clinical excellence across all Maine Veterans’ Homes locations. The DCO leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical systems, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and provides consultative support to Directors of Nursing (DONs) and facility leadership. This role also serves as a key clinical resource to the Central Office and a backup to the compliance officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and systems
  • Support and mentor DONs and clinical teams across all Homes
  • Lead or participate in mock surveys, plans of correction, and clinical audits
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and MVH compliance plans
  • Serve as the organization’s primary resource on clinical matters
  • Conduct regular site visits and competency assessments
  • Provide clinical consultation on staffing, care planning, chart reviews, and quality outcomes
  • Report updates and recommendations to Central Office leadership
  • Oversee and support the Manager of Clinical Services and matrix oversight of DON clinical practice

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maine required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in long-term care and geriatric nursing, including experience as a Director of Nursing
  • Strong knowledge of state, federal, and VA regulations for skilled and long-term care
  • Proven leadership in clinical operations, compliance, and quality improvement
  • Experience in training, consulting, and clinical systems implementation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
