Description

The Treatment Nurse is a professional position. The person will be responsible for all dressing changes, blood glucose monitoring, nebulizer treatments, g-tube feedings, IV medication administration, and application of all medicated creams and ointments as ordered by the providers. Also responsible for completing the Braden Scale assessments when scheduled and documenting on wounds under "Wound Management" in AHT, for patient in the Nursing and Skilled Care units. It is the responsibility of this position to ensure that patients have skin issues and wounds monitored closely, to avoid complications.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Verify that treatment cart is well stocked at start of shift to eliminate loss of time running for necessary supplies.
  2. Perform blood glucose testing in prior to breakfast and lunch and cover with insulin as necessary.
  3. Do all dressing changes as ordered by provider, using the appropriate dressing supplies/ointments.
  4. Change indwelling catheters when scheduled and
  5. For residents with g-tubes: give feeding, change dressings as ordered and assess skin condition surrounding tube, give medications via g-tube if ordered, check placement and residuals and document.
  6. IV antibiotics: administer as ordered by provider and assess for side effects.
  7. Administer all medicated creams to abrasions, rashes, and skin irritations as ordered by provider and document findings.
  8. Verify supplies in your cart that have expiration dates monthly.
  9. Restock treatment cart at the end of your shift.
  10. Check biohazard box on cart and change when necessary.
  11. Inform Staff nurse and Charge nurse of any wound that appears to be They will contact the provider for further orders.
  12. Work closely with Staff nurse to assure quality care for residents at all times.
  13. CNA's can only help with application of Calmoseptine/Lanoseptic cream to buttocks to avoid further irritation. Assess, when possible, to make sure areas are blanchable.
