Camp North Star is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Chef/Cook to prepare nutritious and delicious meals for campers and staff during our 10-week summer season. The ideal candidate will have experience in large-scale food preparation, an understanding of dietary needs, and a passion for creating a welcoming dining experience in a camp setting.

 

This is a seasonal ONLY position, ideal for chefs and cooks that work on a school year or winter seasonal schedule and have the summer free. Camp North Star doesn't operate outside of the summer camp season. We offer commuter and residential positions. The residential position includes room and board as part of a generous compensation package. 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare three meals per day, plus snacks, for campers and staff (approx. 300 people).
  • Work with the Camp Director to develop weekly menus that accommodate various dietary needs (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free, allergies).
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation according to state health regulations.
  • Manage food inventory, ordering, and deliveries within a set budget.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, dining, and food storage areas.
  • Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff, and foster a positive and team-oriented kitchen environment.
  • Assist with special camp events that require food service (BBQs, banquets, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a chef, cook, or in food service (camp, school, or institutional cooking preferred).
  • Ability to cook for large groups
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, allergy management, and nutrition.
  • ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Positive attitude and ability to adapt to a camp setting.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Schedule & Work Conditions:

  • Full-time, seasonal position for approximately 10 weeks (including training and wrap-up). Positions start in June with a flexible start date tailored to accommodate the conclusion of the staff member's school year commitment. All positions end on August 9.
  • Early mornings and weekends required.
  • Meals and lodging may be provided.
