The Perioperative CNA plays a critical role in supporting the clinical team and enhancing patient experience in the perioperative setting. This role involves working in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Operating Room (OR) areas, providing essential non-clinical and clinical support to ensure efficient patient care and flow.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with pre-operative patient preparation in the ASU, including verifying instructions and helping patients change and prepare for surgery.
  • Support turnover and cleaning of bays between cases to maintain infection control standards.
  • Stock supplies in patient bays, OR, PACU, and kitchenette as needed.
  • Greet and escort patients from the waiting area to pre-op and assist with admission process.
  • Transport patients to and from the OR and other units, ensuring all paperwork (consents, H&P, etc.) is complete.
  • Receive post-operative patients from the OR and assist with Phase II recovery support.
  • Take and document vital signs accurately.
  • Assist patients with dressing and preparation for discharge.
  • Provide drinks and snacks to recovering patients.
  • Keep the kitchenette clean, stocked, and organized.
  • Answer incoming phone calls professionally and direct them appropriately.
  • Dispose of trash and manage soiled linen according to protocol.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with RNs and other members of the care team.
  • Helping with cleaning turn overs for OR, including terminal cleaning when needed.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions precisely.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in anticipating the needs of patients and staff.
  • Comfortable answering phones and assisting with basic administrative tasks.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe environment, including handling trash and linens as needed.
