General Summary:

Unum is seeking a skilled Business Programmer III with strong C#/.NET experience to join our Documentation Management team. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions, debugging complex applications, and collaborating in a team environment. The Business Programmer will have a solid background in business or financial analysis, management reporting, and related work experience. This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of 2x per week onsite at one of our campuses.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Development (30%)

  • Design, code, test and troubleshoot programs utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.
  • Develop moderate to complex applications utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.
  • Maintain and modify existing programs; make approved changes.
  • Test and develop programming modifications.
  • Write new program code using prescribed specifications.
  • Write and maintain programming documentation.

Analysis (20%)

  • Evaluate complex interrelationships between programs.
  • Apply critical analysis, the way in which information is interpreted and evaluated, which will identify key issues, pose additional questions for further research, make sense of conflicting pieces of information, challenge opinions and develop alternative solutions to problems.
  • Analyze performance of programs and take actions to correct deficiencies based on consultations with users and approval of supervisor.

Consulting (25%)

  • Confer with users to gain understanding of needed changes or modifications of existing programs. Resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
  • Lead or participate in departmental, cross-functional or corporate projects.

Management Reporting (20%)

  • Conduct or support complex analysis and research of data to support management decision making.

Other (5%)

  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Educational/Work Experience

  • Bachelor degree is required.
  • 5 - 10 years experience with business or financial analysis, management reporting, or related work experience is required.

Technical Experience

  • Advanced experience with query, reporting and analysis tools in a mainframe environment, such as QlikView, SAS and Easytrieve Plus, is required.
  • Expert PC skills required (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Significant experience working with a data Warehouse or relational databases is required.
  • Must possess strong understanding and experience interpreting logical and physical designs of different relational database structures.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, extraction, transformation and batch load processing is required.
  • Knowledge of systems is preferred.
  • Experience with DW/BI development projects and data mining techniques is preferred.

Business Experience

  • Insurance industry knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Cross-functional and in-depth knowledge of multiple business processes and operational processes is highly desirable.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$63,500.00-$120,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
