Kennebec Behavioral Health, established in 1960 as a comprehensive community behavioral health provider and named as one of the Best Places to Work in Maine for the last 4 consecutive years, is currently seeking Peer Support Partners (PSP) to join our Behavioral Health Home (BHH) team in the Winthrop/Farmington area. This position works as a member of a multidisciplinary team that partners with people seeking their best life.
Peer Support partners with participants in the Behavioral Health Home to create an authentic secure space to discuss hard topics, share their personal lived experiences and discover how we’ve come to think, behave and believe the way we do, so we can learn about new ways to relate that will work both of us. We use a person-centered, strengths approach to explore hopes, goals, dreams and values, and discover new ways of thinking about where we want life to go from here.
PSP’s partners one-on-one with people in a community setting or in their homes. We work together to develop a mutual connection, where we practice different ways to speak our truth, and advocate for what we need as everybody’s voice is important.
PSP’s may be asked to facilitate groups in various topics related to the setting in which we work, including topics such as wellness, self-discovery, boundaries, self-esteem, healthy relationships.
This is a non-clinical role. We do NOT conduct assessments, make evaluations. We don’t help, instead we partner with people because we are on a similar journey of liberating ourselves. One of the guiding principles of Peer Support, is “Nothing About Us Without Us.” So what we say stays between us.
