As a Speech and Language Pathologist, you will deliver measurable results in screening, evaluating, treating and consulting with students to enable them to benefit from their educational program.
Qualifications: Love what you do, a proven professional with enthusiasm, passion, and demonstrated track record of successfully working with school age children. Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders is required as well as State of Maine Speech-Language Pathologist license. Must possess Maine Department of Education’s Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). Reports to: Special Services Director and Building Principal
Responsibilities:
Communication
- Provide appropriate instructional planning as a result of completed diagnostic evaluations.
- Provide materials and/or consultation to regular and special education teachers for the purpose of delivering appropriate educational programming for students with speech/language/hearing impairments.
- Develop a schedule for speech therapy in consultation with building administration, teachers, other specialists and parents.
- Report student progress in writing to parents at required reporting periods or more frequently as needed.
- Consult and collaborate with outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related service providers.
- Provide consultation and support to parents and families as appropriate.
Operational Excellence
- Administer appropriate assessments for students referred for speech and language evaluations in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate student records for the purpose of completing thorough annual reviews and three- year evaluations.
- Participate in IEP meetings to assist in determination of a student’s identification as having a speech/language impairment or other disability requiring speech therapy.
- Provide in-service training on speech/language and hearing needs for regular and special education staff.
Leadership
- Keep current in the field of speech language pathology, hearing, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and assistive technology.
- Attend special education staff meetings and serve on special education committees; keeps current on special education rules and regulations.
- Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed speech/language/hearing equipment and supplies.
- Maintain record of hearing aid checks in assigned buildings.
- Assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.
- Bill for Mainecare reimbursement services.
Student Centered
- Screen kindergarten and transfer students as needed for speech/language needs
- Case manage students who have speech therapy as a primary special education service.
- Develop appropriate IEP goals and provide evidence based interventions to meet the needs of students with identified speech, language, or hearing needs.

Terms of Employment: Regular school year for professional teachers. Salary to be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with the District’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
