School-based Mental Health Clinician (School Social Worker or School-based Clinician)

The Oxford Hills School District is seeking excellent candidates for the position of School Social Worker or School-based Clinician at Guy E. Rowe Elementary School.

TITLE: School-based Mental Health Clinician (School Social Worker or School-based Clinician)

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Maine clinical license (LCSW, LMSW-cc, LCPC, or LCPC-c)

2. At least three years of of successful experience preferred

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator, Director of Student Support

JOB GOAL:

The School-based Mental Health Clinician, either as a School Social Worker or School-based Clinician, works as part of a team of colleagues to evaluate, consult and provide social work services to school aged children. The School-based Mental Health Clinician provides counseling, case management, and supportive services to students, families, and staff, in order to assist children ages 3-22 in meeting their academic, social, emotional, developmental, and physical needs. The Clinician position is designed to help students navigate challenges related to mental health, family dynamics, social interactions, trauma and other barriers that may impact their learning and overall well-being.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  1. Ensures the implementation of the District's mission and goals.
  2. Promotes a positive environment and interacts in a positive manner with colleagues, parents, students, and visitors.
  3. Recognizes urgency; can distinguish between the urgent and important vs. merely urgent, and acts accordingly.

Student Services Provider

  1. As a Student Services Provider, the School-based Mental Health Clinician works with members of the learning community to identify and support the mental health of all students. The School-based Mental Health Clinician maximizes the performance and effectiveness of the schools by:
    1. Offering direct and indirect services to students and families necessary for their academic, personal, emotional, and social development
    2. Offering individual and group counseling services to ensure the well-being of all students and families
    3. Conducting student mental health assessments, as appropriate
    4. Offering crisis management and support services to include risk assessment, de-escalation, re-entry planning and debriefing for students and their families, and school staff, as needed. Develop safety plans in collaboration with school staff and families. Refer to outside agencies or hospitals for crisis intervention services if needed.
  2. Abiding by professional ethics and standards
  3. Assisting students with post-secondary transitions
  4. Providing professional development in mental health preventative care measures
  5. Attend required trainings, stay current with best practices, trends in social work, and maintain appropriate credentials. Demonstrate proficiency in therapeutic modalities, case management, and crisis intervention techniques.
  6. Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines regarding student information and personal circumstances, following both legal and ethical standards.
  7. Participating in the development and management of district-wide protocols for crisis intervention
  8. Attending student-focused meetings, as requested

Community Outreach Coordinator

  1. As a Community Outreach Coordinator, the School-based Mental Health Clinician works with teachers, administrators, and parents. The School-based Mental Health Clinician demonstrates his or her role as an essential and equal partner in the educational process by:
    1. Offering case management services to include coordination with other professionals, including school staff and outside providers, documenting interventions, completing referrals, and tracking student progress to ensure continuity of care.
    2. Maintaining effective and regular communication with parents and/or guardians regarding the welfare and progress of students while maintaining confidentiality
    3. Conducting home visits as necessary, per district policies/procedures
    4. Making referrals as needed to the Maine State Department of Health and Human Services regarding issues of child abuse and/or neglect, and to coordinate DHHS contact/interviews with students in school
    5. Keeping accurate records regarding referrals and communication with the Maine State Department of Health and Human Services
    6. Maintaining ongoing communication as needed with the appropriate community agencies, including the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, local and statewide social service agencies, private clinical practitioners, local hospitals, and other placements/programs

IEP/504 Team Member

  1. As an IEP/504 Team Member, the School-based Mental Health Clinician ensures that the services meet the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004 as set forth in the Maine Department of Education Regulations Chapter 101 and provides expertise in the implementation of plan driven social work services by:
    1. Attending IEP/504 meetings as requested
    2. Managing and maintaining records regarding student services
    3. Assisting the IEP Team with goal development based on assessment results
    4. Assisting the 504 Team with accommodation plan development
    5. Completing classroom observations and providing clinical feedback
    6. Collaborating with IEP Team members to provide services to students in a variety of therapeutic models
    7. Providing services to students that align to specific IEP goals and objectives
