York Hospital seeks a highly energetic professional with experience in creating and executing a comprehensive development program. The successful candidate will have a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the 5, 6, and 7-figure range from individuals, managing relationships with current and prospective donors, and identifying, cultivating, andsoliciting new donors and major gift prospects.
The Chief Philanthropy Officer works collaboratively with the Hospital’s President & CEO, Board of Trustees, medical staff, employees, and volunteers to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy aligned with the Hospital’s short and long-term goals. The Chief Philanthropy Officer reports directly to the Hospital President and CEO and supervises a full-time Gift Officer and Philanthropy Associate.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
â— In concert with the Hospital President & CEO and Board of Trustees, develop andimplement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization’s annual revenue and long-term strategic goals.
â— Approach donor strategy with the longevity of the organization and the donor’s immediate intent in mind, integrating long-term stewardship plans as part of the solicitation process.
â— Inform the President and CEO Committee(s) and Board of Trustees on current trends, issues, challenges, and activities to facilitate policy making. Recommend policy positions concerning fund development.
â— Maintain donor confidentiality and abide by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics in all fundraising activities. Conform to standards of performance and conduct, including patient and donor rights, so that the best possible service may be provided.
â— Serve as a senior management team member, supporting patient-centered care goals and operational effectiveness.
Philanthropy/Relationship Building
â— Develop and implement fundraising strategies and targets for annual giving, special campaigns, institutional funding, planned giving, and a grateful patient program.
â— Oversee the creation and implementation of innovative cultivation and stewardship opportunities that inspire donors to elevate their support, engagement, and commitment to York Hospital programs, physicians, and caregivers.
â— Personally manage a portfolio of high-level prospects and donors while working to reach the next level of principal-level prospects.
â— Manage relationships with current and prospective donors and identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward in partnership with the Hospital President and CEO, Senior Leadership Team, Board of Trustees, medical staff, and other staff as appropriate.
â— Offer prospect strategy counsel to the President & CEO and philanthropy staff managing other prospects. Be a resource for development staff.
â— Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers and other York Hospital representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for organization-wide priorities.
â— Represent York Hospital in the community to strengthen community relations, engage stakeholders, and serve as an ambassador for the Hospital.
Office/Operations
â— Lead all day-to-day operations of the philanthropy team and ensure the productivity of programs and staff.
â— Manage the full-time Gifts Officer and Philanthropy Associate (database, clerical support), providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
â— Monitor all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
â— Ensure donor interactions, relationships, and other relevant information in the donor database are in accordance with best practices, policies, and procedures.
â— Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies.
â— Participate in the budget process and maintain awareness of the current budget as it applies to philanthropy, accounting for any variances regularly.
â— Collaborate with Community Relations and other relevant staff to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials, including print, digital, and social media.
â— Collaborate with the business development team to ensure the alignment of fund development and Hospital finances.
â— Report regularly to the Board of Trustees and the Development Committee.
Qualifications
â— Bachelor’s degree required. CFRE and/or Master’s degree (MBA/MPA) preferred.
â— Minimum of 8 years of proven experience managing and developing a successful major gift fundraising program that resulted in revenue growth, an expanded constituency base, and board engagement.
â— Full understanding of all aspects of a comprehensive development program, focusing on major and principal gift strategy.
â— Proven ability to close major and principal gifts, along with a demonstrated record of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship best practices, including managing a personal portfolio.
â— Demonstrated success in building grateful patient relationships in service of major gift programs.
â— Success collaborating with senior management, board leadership, and volunteers to advance a high-level philanthropy program.
â— Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends and adjust to other department needs.
â— Experience with computer systems, including Raiser's Edge NXT, web-based applications, and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Teams, is required.
â— Strong administrative, reporting, and record-keeping skills.
â— Experience in medical philanthropy is preferred.
