The Nurse Director is primarily responsible for the overseeing and coordinating of the provision of nursing services offered in each program area for the children in care including contracted services (MD, PT, Speech, etc.) and services of outside providers (dental, eye, etc.). Also responsible for budgeting, planning, implementation, problem-solving, staff training, record keeping and compliance with all regulatory, licensing, and accrediting authorities at the state and national level. Will consult with the Staff Psychiatrist, as necessary. The Nurse Director will be responsible for the supervision of Nurses, Transportation Aides, Student Nurses and Interns in providing care appropriate to the age-related needs of children. Indirectly, the Nurse Director will supervise any and all staff members responsible for the distribution of medication to children in care and those responsible for medical record keeping and distribution of information from such record. The Nurse Director will educate others on clinical issues as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s in nursing or related field preferred.
One year of medical – surgical nursing, with an additional year of psychiatric nursing preferred.
Licensed in State of Maine as Registered Nurse (RN)
JOB DUTIES:
Clinical Functions – Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement and evaluate individual care including the assessment of physical, emotional and behavioral needs and the development of appropriate nursing interventions to meet those needs. Will identify treatment issues and plan interventions within the context of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and also work with this team in discharge and aftercare planning. Will conduct post-restraint assessments as needed. Will be an advocate for a child’s needs. As requested, will give input and information for research opportunities and outcome studies to measure effectiveness of clinical interventions or work processes.
Leadership and Supervision – Provides administrative and clinical supervision to supervisees. Oversees the daily provision of nursing services. Supports, directs, and guides subordinates in accomplishing goals set for nursing services to meet the age-specific and developmental needs of children in care. Demonstrates integrity, truthfulness and ethical behavior with children in care as well as with staff members.
Quality Assessment and Improvement – Able to collect and interpret data and make recommendations as necessary. Consistently seeks ways to improve efficiency while maintaining quality of care. Ensures completion of QA, peer review, chart review and utilization review functions as necessary. Is a member of the New England QA/I Committee. Assists contract physicians with peer review process.
Organizational Awareness – Upholds the professional standards of treatment and the mission of KidsPeace. Adheres to KidsPeace Policies and Procedures. Attends pertinent staff meetings, training, seminars, and/or continuing education.
Compliance – Responsible for ensuring compliance with KidsPeace policies and with all regulatory bodies including OSHA, Maine licensing, JCAHO, State law, Federal law, etc.
Communications - Maintains good working relationships with staff members, customers and the public. Shares pertinent job-related information, in a timely manner in order to promote sound decision-making and efficient workflow. Demonstrates sensitivity in communications with children regarding diagnostic and clinical needs.
Safety – Ensures the safety of children and staff members and takes immediate action to remove all dangers or threats of danger to the welfare of those children and staff members. Demonstrates and teaches the appropriate action in response to emergency, fire, crisis, infection control, accident prevention, or environmental hazard situations.
