The Director of Corporate Technology Standards and Practices will provide strategic oversight and technical guidance across the individual line of business application development teams in the design and deployment of best in class development strategies, tools and processes.   The position will work closely with individual lines of business teams (Technology, Operations, and Product Management) to evaluate current approach to software development and to identify organizational governance models, development performance metrics and programs, software development life cycle standards and practices to deliver the highest quality, most cost effective development and technology delivery capabilities including establishing policies,  identifying and monitoring performance, tools, automation strategies, project and performance data and environment approaches, and tracking and monitoring requirements.  

This position will set strategic direction and leads process improvement initiatives through the disciplined use of measurements, accountability, analysis and discussion of process and development alternatives in order to arrive at best practices across the Corporate Technology group.  This position is responsible for planning, managing, and controlling the activities of a team that provides operational support for Corporate Technology group and specific teams within the group.  This position brings expertise or identifies subject matter experts in support of multi-functional efforts in establishing and applying technology standards and practices, identifying key metrics, data capture and analysis, infrastructure support, tool ownership and compliance with procedures, etc.   The position will advise line of business groups by providing strategic direction to initiative prioritization, integration and resource application.  The incumbent will ensure that policies and procedures align with corporate vision.

This position will work across the company to establish minimal software development policies and standards including identification and distribution of common tools and practices for design, execution, tracking and monitoring of all corporate technology areas.  The position will establish, collaborate and influence organizational governance models and decisions processes and provide guidance and direction to ensure best practices are understood and followed.

The incumbent will be passionate about software development and technology performance across multiple disciplines and will champion the identification and implementation of advances in software and technology operations methodologies and tools and drive the creation of best in class software development culture. 

This position is expected to have extensive knowledge of software development methodologies and tools applicable across multiple software development life cycles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Identify current software development trends across the industry

• Define and drive the WEX Software Development culture in conjunction with line of business development management and set overall WEX objectives and goals for development standards and performance expectations.

• Achieve Corporate Technology operational objectives for adoption of best of class software development methodologies and strategies as evidenced by improvements in metrics and measurements.

• Establish guidelines and standards regarding software development performance through the development and implementation of Technology team rewards and ensure applicability across the line of business application development teams.

• Provide the necessary definition, development and distribution of WEX development policies and strategies addressing all phases of software/product development and deployment. Develop and implement minimal Technology standards, governance models and control systems.   Assist in the identification and syndication of best practices across the organization including automation, velocity, quality, performance and reporting.

• Provide support and guidance to each Application Development team engineers and project managers including preparation and review of plans and approach.

• Research and champion advances in software development methodologies and discipline across various approaches including Agile and continuous development, improvement and deployment.

• Drive increased application of standardized software development tools and strategies across WEX.  Identify and assess the viability, functionality and effectiveness of current and possible future essential development and deployment tools and applications.

• Develop and manage WEX technology performance metrics and reporting requirements for software development efforts.

• Establish minimal WEX standards for SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) documentation including approach and strategy, tools, plans, metrics and measurements and reporting.

• Work with individual LOB’s to establish policies and practices for development strategies and tactics.

• Manage corporate technology reporting functions and tools including Daptiv, JIRA, and Confluence.

• Provide Project Management support for specific activities (including compliance efforts) as required.

• Manage a team of Project Managers and Business Analysts to drive corporate reporting, development metrics and projects as necessary.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Minimum Required Qualifications for Consideration

• Bachelors in Computer Design, Development or Engineering

• 8+ years of progressive technology development and project management experience.

• 4+ years establishing and managing technology strategy at a corporate level

• Expertise with various development and project management tools (e.g. JIRA, Daptiv, Confluence, etc)

• Superior knowledge of software development principles and tools

• Understanding of B2B payment marketplace and SaaS engagement model

• Understanding different software development life cycles (waterfall, iterative, Agile) as well as contemporary software processes and automation tools.

• Must successfully pass a background investigation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leveraging off shore and near shore development resources and environments.

• Previous experience leading diverse and matrixed teams in the execution of corporate wide strategy
