The Town of Falmouth has an immediate opening for a Parks Maintenance Assistant in the Parks and Community Programs Department. This position requires semi-skilled manual labor in the maintenance of athletic fields, trails, town parks and facilities. The Parks Assistant is responsible for assisting parks staff with the upkeep of recreational fields, cemeteries, multi-use trails, playgrounds, and municipal facilities, as well as the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of power equipment, including but not limited to agricultural tractors, commercial riding mowers, push mowers, string trimmers and small hand tools. Daily work includes mowing, weed whacking, seasonal plowing, and ice rink maintenance. Work is performed in a department of three, under the direct supervision of the Parks Supervisor.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, and 3-5 years experience maintaining municipal or school property, athletic fields, or landscaping maintenance. Must have the ability to operate trucks, trailers, and lighter motorized equipment safely and according to laws and regulations. Experience with athletic field maintenance and turf management, playground safety, and plowing is desired. Candidate must have a valid Maine driver’s license or the ability to obtain one, as well as an excellent driving record.
