ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Preparation of the surgical suite/clinical area and all supplies/equipment will ensure environmental safety for patients and staff
  • Selecting appropriate supplies and equipment
  • Checking equipment for working order and reporting unsafe working conditions to the appropriate person
  • Verifying exposure to sterilization process
  • Opening supplies aseptically
  • Establishing and maintaining a sterile field
  • Identifying principles & techniques of disinfection, sterilization & environmental control
  • Participates in counting according to the policy
  • Appropriately prepares all specimens for the lab
  • Identifies unusual or emergent situations and uses sound judgment in aiding to correct them
  • Attends all safety training programs as well as practices safe and healthful work habits
  • Contributes to the delivery of effective patient care as delegated by the Registered Nurse


JOB REQUIREMENTS


  • Graduate of an accredited S.T. Technology program
  • C.S.T. required
  • BLS required
  • Minimum or 2 years of experience in a similar setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of operative anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of common complications of the surgical procedure
  • Ability to identify breaks in the aseptic technique and correct them
  • Displays dexterity in the use of surgical instruments throughout the procedure
  • Ability to differentiate between clean, contaminated, and sterile areas
  • Excellent communication skills and strong “Customer Service” orientation
